Prof. Dr. Joost J.C. Verhoeff is Professor and Chair of Radiation Oncology at Amsterdam UMC, the Netherlands. His clinical and scientific work focuses on advanced radiotherapy and the implementation of innovative treatment technologies. As Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology, he is responsible for a large multidisciplinary radiotherapy program across multiple locations, including a dedicated clinical hyperthermia service.
Hyperthermia is an important component of the department’s multidisciplinary treatment portfolio and is integrated with radiotherapy for selected indications, including recurrent breast cancer, cervical cancer, rectal cancer, esophageal cancer, and other locally advanced or recurrent tumors. Prof. Verhoeff is closely involved in the strategic development, clinical integration, and further expansion of hyperthermia within Amsterdam UMC, with a particular focus on maintaining expertise, strengthening referral pathways, and generating clinical evidence for combined radiotherapy and hyperthermia.
In addition, he is active in national and international collaborative research through organizations including EORTC and ESTRO. His broader academic interests include the development of evidence-based personalized radiotherapy, the evaluation of novel technologies, and the organization of multicenter clinical research aimed at improving treatment outcomes and quality of life.
